Art Clubs and Workshops

The Villages Recreation News and the district government Club Contacts are good sources of locating art classes and workshops, along with the Lifelong Learning College  which offers a wide variety of art instruction. The Workshops in The Villages offers a list of visiting artists with complete supply lists for classes.

meets at 12:30 on the 3rd Friday of the month at LaHacienda Center. After a short open business meeting and announcements of upcoming activities, demonstrations are given by artists in various media. Get VAA Membership Application     
Village Art League (VAL)  www.thevillagesartleague.org
The Villages Art League (VAL) meets the 1st Monday of each moth at the Saddlebrook Recreation center and is made up of artists working in various media and at diverse skill levels. We are residents of The Villages, Florida and welcome other Villages residents who are interested in art.

Colored Pencil Workshops
 - held the 1st and 3rd Mondays of each month at Laurel Manor Recreation Center from 9-11am with Nan Klein instructing.
 
Pen and Ink Workshops
  - share the same time and place with the Colored Pencil Workshops at Laurel Manor with instruction by Paul Klein.
 
Sketching Made Easy
  - held on Saturdays at 9am in Saddlebrook Recreation Center, just bring pencils and sketch pad.
 
Figure Drawing Workshop
 -  held 2nd and 4th Fridays of each month at 9:30am at the Pimlico Recreation Center, bring pencils and sketch pad.
 
Oil Painters
- meets 3rd Wednesday of month, Mulberry Recreation Center
 
The Art Studio
  - meets every Thursday 9-noon at Colony Cottage Recreation Center. Artists using all types of media are welcome. Gentle critiques, sharing of techniques, and frequent demonstrations are planned. Contact Judi Adams 270-316-1282

Fine Arts Painting
  - meets 1-3pm each Tuesday at Paradise Center. Work is done in oils, watercolors, pastels and acrylics. Demonstrations in any medium are planned the first Tuesday of the month. All artists are welcome to join. contact Ellen Reinhart 430-1985
 
Exhibits & Activities
 
Artists Round the Square (ARTS)
  - held at the Spanish Springs Town Square or Lake Sumter Market Square 2 to 4 times a year. Sign up to exhibit as many as 3 original pieces of artwork on one easel plus one browse box. The event takes place from 1 to 4 pm on Sunday. The public votes for their favorite paintings and Peoples Choice awards are given at the end of the day. VAA and The Entertainment Dept event.
 
LaGalleria exhibits
  - held at LaHacienda Recreation Center. On each scheduled date, artist submit one original piece of artwork between 8:30 and 10:00 a.m. Judging is at 11:00 a.m. and an awards ceremony may take place later in the day. Paintings are expected to remain at LaGalleria for 3 to 4 months, until the next scheduled event. It is the responsibility of the artist to pick up his work. VAA event
 
Sumter County Annex
 -  County rd 466 Shows are held here 3 times a year. Original Artwork is submitted, judged and awards are given. The artwork remains until the next schedule Show. VAA event
 
The Villages Artist Showcase
  - held the Saturday after Thanksgiving at Savannah Center from 9am to 3 am on a Saturday . Tables and spaces are rented for $20 through the VAL. The purpose of the showcase is to show and sell paintings, prints, note cards, etc. Tables may be shared.. VAL event.
 
The Art Extravaganza
  - held in February at Laurel Manor , Buena Vista and 466 from 9am to 3 am on a Saturday.. Tables and spaces are rented through the VAA. This show is juried but open to all media. Awards are given in 5 categories. VAA event.
 
The Villages Summer Art Festival
 - held the second Saturday of July at the Lake Miona Recreation center, corner of Buena Vista and Bailey Trail. This show is usually on a Saturday and from 9 am to 3 pm. Spaces are rented through the Village Art League for $20. VAL event
